A Rain Dance

She looked up at the sky and waved at passing clouds
They thundered and pelted rain as the wind howled
A puddle of water where in joy she danced
Getting wet with shine in eyes was her stance
Yonder in the green fields sings cuckoo on a mango bark
The peacock spreads feathers in distant melody hark
Seldom have we enjoyed such nature’s way of romance
Without worry, to break into a spontaneous rain dance

PS: 1.Today marks the beginning of the fifth month of Vikrama calendar called ‘Savan’( The Monsoon Time) . It heralds the arrival of rains, girls apply Heena and sing while enjoying on the swings.  The sweets like Ghevar and Pheni are eaten all over North India to rejoice!

    1. True Purba, rain gods have been more than generous but we like always are crying either for lack of it or too much of it rather than waking from slumber and stopping the plunder of rich lovely hills and valleys that we have and preserving them!

  10. The rains and their rituals. I am so upset that my friends living in the North are having a tough time tackling the rains - houses flooded with water - and in no mood to celebrate.

Henna - I have the desperate urge to get that design on my hands! :-) The natural disaster apart, our rituals for celebrating are such fun, Rahul!

    1. I agree that the widespread disaster has brought a lot of misery and caught thousands unawares!Sadly, the one who suffer the most are because of the greed of few, Vidya! Hope you can get the design of Henna done or even a better one :)

  11. Rain is whimsical-brings joy for some and tragedy for others.
But the first rains after a scorching summer are so welcome.

  15. Hi Rahul, I could imagine an elaborate dance as you've described. I had no idea about this season, thanks for informing me of it, is there any traditional reason that the girls apply henna during this time?

  28. I am not complaining, I love the rains, have been looking for it for so long in Bangalore, and we finally have very good rains, maybe a little too late but still it is raining, and it feels so good. After nearly 4 years we have come to see rains like this, and to think Bangalore was always famous for its mild showers throughout the year.
I love the winter too, each season has its own charm.
Lovely poem, feelings so well expressed.
