The human mind is such that it is unable to rest even when
we sleep! Barring a few hours that we are in deep slumber it is active all the
time, including dreaming and even day dreaming! It probably travels at the speed
of the light, as the numbers of thoughts that invade it are difficult to
measure. I am not as much concerned from a scientific point of view but more
from a literary perspective. Give the mind a rest for some time and it is fully
charged to process and generate even more ideas. Like the human tongue that
likes to flavor all the tastes ranging from sweetest to sour , the human
mind works overtime to be possessed with creative
thoughts to write a story, or a small work of fiction or even poetry. God has
created each one different and hence the ideas that get generated are also unique.
The mind too wants different fodder ranging from serious works , other times
funny stories, lyrical compositions, fantasy, thrillers, fiction or even
erotic! The mind has a strange connection with the other body parts which make
us feel active, dull or lethargic based on the swing in moods. If the mind
continues to stay in a particular state for longer duration, it has a telling
effect on the rest of the body including the fitness levels or sometimes on set
of disease thus it is important to maintain the mind in happy state for as long
as possible
Most of us are most creative in the wee hours of the morning
when the new ideas come in torrents including the dreams too! There have been
times when waiting for a cab, or reading or even while taking a bath, the mind goes on
overdrive but rarely do we have ‘Eureka’ moments like Archimedes, or discovering
’Laws of Gravitation’ while sitting
under an apple tree like Newton.
I have always wondered how quickly we change the tracks
while thinking. The best designed railroad systems cannot match the change in tracks
in comparison to a human mind. Those who are accomplished politicians can
change their minds about jumping bandwagons faster than a chameleon that can
change colors when they see greater benefits or greener pastures.
Another phenomenon that has left me bewildered at times is
the ‘change of mind’. I am sure most of us experience this at some time or other!
When we have decided on acting in a particular way in a situation we act in a
totally different manner at the spur of the moment. Many a times there is just
no rational explanation as to why we did that way!
In some shocking situations the mind gets benumbed rendering
the rest of the body in a transfixed condition, in a way unable to act. Our
minds also have a capacity of retention of past memory to act in a predictable
manner or situation or even with individuals with whom we have interacted in
past. Thus our actions are governed more depending on the state of mind.
Well that was what came to my mind and would stop the rant
lest I get a ‘piece of mind’ of my lovely readers!

DeleteYes and this is the major reason why I cannot understand the concept of Meditation!!! My Brain things minimum 100 things as I type this :O
ReplyDeleteWell documented Rahul sir :D
Why do you need to meditate, Ramya? I think that can be a subject for another post, though I am not very knowledgeable about it:)
Delete"Many a times there is just no rational explanation as to why we did that way!
ReplyDeleteThis pretty much sums up all my actions :D I doubt that is a good thing though :)
Agree Chintan! We all are pretty much the same:)
DeleteSo true but I am not at all a morning person so nothing worthwhile comes to my head in the morning other than sleep:)
ReplyDeletewww.thoughtsofpaps.com
Ha ha Asamptha, one need not get best ideas in only morning! Sleeping may be a better idea:)
DeleteFascinating subject...
DeleteThanks a lot Ashok!
DeleteI completely agree with the idea you shared. Human mind is the fastest at flipping from one thought to another. It happens to me most of the times. And yes, I experienced, I think of something in a different way but react to it differently.
ReplyDeleteI am impressed to see how minutely and perfectly your observation is.
Great to read a total new thing here :)
Happy writing!
A huge thanks Simran for your very nice comment!
DeleteWe all face this some time or other, but maybe physical tiredness is the key to get into deep slumber, Ashwini:)
ReplyDeleteHi Rahul, sorry for the delayed response, I have began a new project and barely have time to blog and comment. Its truly amazing how powerful the mind is, and how creativity can immerse at any random moment. Well described! Wishing you a fruitful week ahead
