An Ode to the Tricolour

The steel birds fly with a hawk’s eye
Guarding with vigil the azure limitless sky
Men in white defend the turquoise sea
With grit like  a Casabianca in reverie
Sentinels in olive green never wink
Face avalanches in Siachen for no cheap thrill
Did likes of Abdul Hamid loose life for a religion?
Every soldier sees tricolor flutter his only religion
Sitting in cozy confines the think tanks debate
Whether tricolour is foisted to perpetuate hate
The intellectual debate rarely brings unison
They only lead to an endless frustration
Let tricolour fly in every Indian heart
To usher harmony and patriotism for a start

  5. You echo my sentiments too, Rahul. Makes me very sad the non-controversies that are becoming news these days.

  7. Hi Rahul

    Beautiful lines.

Even during war anywhere for that matter, I feel both opposing sides have soldiers full of patriotism; young men in their early years with their families behind; over the years, I mean spanning hundreds of years, the world geography keeps changing, yet soldiers stick on to patriotism and sacrifice for someone's political ambition. Sad! We were far better in prehistoric cavemen times when the fights were only for individual survival.

    1. Agree totaly with your perspective Jaishree, that brave men loose life for political ambitions and misadventures! If mankind understood the futility of war this planet would be a much better place to live

  9. This debate on patriotism that has taken our nation by storm has left a bad taste in everyone's mouth.

    1. The debate on patriotism is uncalled for! The state must have means to identify the trouble mongers especially that indulge in anti national acts including loot and arson!

  10. Moving poem, sir. Let us show our patriotism in action, not on social media.
