Hard Work

We love to complain
    For no reason main
Little effort do we make
    To improve, amend or train
We do not have time
    Is the usual refrain
In a fast moving world
There is little time to blame
Time wasted in pursuits vain
Shirking hard work is the usual game
Take pride in work why have shame
   Sweat relentless for sweet gains

  1. In these few lines, you have said it all. True. We complain, blame and sit silent. We dont take efforts to correct and resolute.

  5. 'Shirking hard work is the usual game'. Generation Y smugly seem to pull out the line of 'smart work' and not hard work! Working styles have changed and how! Wonderful words, and loved the way you have rhymed Rahulji!

  6. Thats nice rhyming and very thoughtful. Yes, now hard work is considered shame, have sensed it in many instances.

  7. Coming here after a long time (was drowned in work). Today, Hard work is looked upon like something that an illiterate does... Others do smart work (which often involves taking credit for all the hard work done by others)

  9. Hi

Actually in offices of today....Long hours of work is being associated with hard work which is not the case....The fact is by not giving 100% to the work at hand its stretched over unnecessarily in many cases....Hard but balanced work is the need of the hour

    1. Jaishree you hit the nail on the head! Working long hours to impress and doing the actual work to maintain balance in life are two different things!

  12. Hi Rahul! Thanks for your very kind comment. This poem really echoes what goes on in the workplace these days, especially with my generation. No one seems to enjoy or take pride their jobs anymore and they are always grumbling about it, whereas the previous generations toiled and slogged away for a living without a single complaint. I wish that there was more gratitude, we are so fortunate just to be part of a working environment while there is so much unemployment around. Good topic!
